FAQ: All About Skincare

 The Facial

Every 28 days, our skin goes through a cycle of shedding and renewal. During this natural process, pores can become clogged with sebum and impurities, which can lead to the formation of whiteheads, blackheads, and acne. Clogged pores also diminish the effectiveness of skin care products by preventing vital nutrients from penetrating into the skin. Thus, it is important to have a PURE Wax & Beaute Bar Facial once a month to thoroughly extract clogged pores for optimal skin health.

The Treatments

To achieve instant visible results, facials should be enhanced with an exfoliation

and infusion treatment. Exfoliation is needed to thoroughly cleanse the skin of dead cells as well as soften impurities, allowing for easier extractions. Complexion is clearer and softened. Infusion will penetrate vital nutrition into the lower layers of the skin to increase cellular metabolism and rejuvenate

complexion.

The At -Home Regimen

In order to maintain long lasting results, it is important that you properly

take care of your skin day and night. Just like a doctor prescribing medicine, your PURE Skin Care Specialist will prescribe for you a customized regimen and educate you on the benefits of each product step.

Let's talk about waxing...

Whether you are going "all in" with a Brazilian bikini wax or just getting your eyebrows touched up, it is important that you choose an experienced esthetician at a reputable establishment for your hair removal needs. These are some of your most delicate areas and the face you show the world everyday. Why would you trust your skin to just anyone?

Waxing is definitely our expertise. Our estheticians are highly-trained and bring years of experience to the table. Our goal is to make every client happy not only with their service, but with their experience as well. Let's face it--when it comes to waxing, it's the destination, not the journey! We do everything we can to make waxing as pleasant as possible!

We have a rewards program: Every time you come in for a service you earn rewards points for each service. You also earn points when you pre-book your next appointment, Do reviews, and refer new clients.

How it works: You can redeem your points in 500 point increments only, which is equal to $5 off. You can earn extra points for future appointment by doing reviews on Yelp(500 points), Google(500 points), Facebook(300 points), and Vagaro(200 points). If you have already done a review you can not obtain points by doing a second review, sorry! but if you refer friends, family, co-workers, etc. and they get a service you will earn 500 points for that referral. So for example if you have 1500 points stacked up that means you have enough points to take $5 off a service for 3 months so if you just do Brazilian wax for the next 3 months your Brazilian will be $37 instead of $42 and you will still earn points on your service when you come in and when you pre-book before you leave.

How long do I have to let my hair grow? How do I prepare for my wax?
Please have a minimum of 3 weeks of hair growth after shaving. This allows for all 3 cycles of hair growth to be grown out so you will get the best wax possible. The more follicles/roots we can pull, the cleaner the wax, the longer it is going to last and the happier you are going to be! The "grow out" stage is often the most difficult step, but the longer the hair is, the cleaner the waxing will turn out. Avoid caffeine the day of your wax. Caffeine restricts blood vessels so skin does not get as much blood flow which will increase sensitivity. Taking an Ibuprofen 30 minutes before your wax will help with sensitivity and inflammation.

Should I trim my hair?
NO! You may trim too much. The longer the hair, the more the wax will adhere, the smoother your skin will become, and the longer the results will last. Your hair should be 1/4 inch or longer. Your hair needs to be long enough for the wax to adhere, two and a half to three weeks of growth or longer is great.

I am on my cycle can I still get waxed?
Yes. If you are on your cycle just wear a tampon and be prepared to be a little more sensitive than usual. Same goes for the few days before your cycle as well.

What if I am pregnant, can I still get waxed?
Yes. You may be a little more sensitive than usual, but we regularly wax mothers-to-be up to a week before their due date! In fact, scheduling a "pre-childbirth Brazilian" is becoming almost as popular as packing an overnight bag for delivery!

Can medication affect waxing?
Yes! You CANNOT be waxed if you are taking any antibiotics, Accutane, Differin, or Retin A. Check with us if you are on any dermatological medications. Additionally, any medications that list "sun sensitivity" on the list of symptoms will preclude you from being waxed. You should also avoid waxing while using glycolic acid, harsh exfoliants or any facial peels. All these products thin out and weaken your skin making you more sensitive and likely to burn or peel. You should wait 2-6 weeks depending on how long you have been on the medication before you wax, as we want to make sure the medication is out of your system so you have a pleasant waxing experience. If you are not sure of how you may react from any other prescriptions you are taking, please give us a call beforehand so we can help you determine if you are able to get waxed.

What is the normal skin reaction to waxing?
It is normal for your skin to show redness after waxing. Some skin is more sensitive than others and reactions may range from no redness at all to very red. The first time you wax an area, or if it has been a while since your last waxing, you will probably experience some redness and sensitivity afterwards. This usually subsides within a few hours, or for very sensitive skin within 24 hours.

Can I tan before or after my waxing?
Please wait 3-5 days after tanning to get waxed. This is so your skin will not "lift" during your waxing appointment. You should wait about 2-3 days after your wax to tan. Waxing takes dead skin off so you will be more photosensitive and prone to burning. If you are spray tanning we recommend to wax first then get your spray tan.

Will waxing make my hair grow back thicker, darker or heavier?
No, it will not. Waxing removes the hair by the root, often weakening the root in process. Therefore, if anything, waxing may make the hair finer and sparser with repeated regular waxing.

When you say Brazilian what do you mean?
The industry definition varies, but for us, it's everything from front to back! If we remove the labia hair it is a Brazilian regardless of what you leave or don't leave on top—be it a landing strip, a triangle, or nothing.

How long does the Brazilian waxing take?
The process is usually 20 minutes or less, but it just depends on how much hair needs to be removed.

How long does waxing last?
Waxing may last 3 to 6 weeks depending on how your hair grows. The more you do it, the longer it will last. We recommend absolutely NO SHAVING in that area between waxes. Shaving traumatizes the hair follicle and creates redness and ingrowns.

How often should I have waxing done?
We recommend anywhere from 3-6 weeks or when the hair is between 1/4 and 1/2 inch long.

I have a special occasion planned and want to get waxed for the first time!  Are there any special instructions?
Yes. If you are waxing for the first time for an event or special occasion, we strongly recommend scheduling the same service 4 weeks PRIOR to make sure you have no adverse reactions on the big day!

FYI

  • To minimize discomfort a pain reliever/anti-inflammatory can be taken 30 minutes prior to a waxing reservation. During your am shower, exfoliate your areas to be waxed.  This removes dead skin and build-up, which will result in the best wax results.

  • Avoid any caffeine before your wax as it intesifies your sensitivity.

  • Again,Please avoid sun exposure for 24 hours both before and after your waxing service.

  • Avoid working out or activities that produce sweating for 24 hours after a wax.  Sweat carries bacteria into the pores and can irritate skin after waxing.  Also avoid sauna, steam and hot tub for one day following a wax.

  • DO NOT TWEEZE or SHAVE IN BETWEEN WAXES

  • Don’t forget to pick up your home care products to maintain silky smooth skin, we carry many ingrown hair relief and exfoliating products so be sure to ask your wax professional!

  • To maintain your wax between sesions we suggest that you be sure to exfoliate 2-3 times per week, moisturize your waxed areas to maintain healthy skin, use your wax serum daily to prevent ingrowns or irritation.
